What We Do

“Be the best; Do the most; Innovate”

Established in the late 1990s, the Personal Injury department’s mission statement succinctly sums up the ethos of the team.

This strictly not for profit team provides advice to Trusts and Boards throughout Wales in the following fields:

  • Employers and Public liability
  • Work related stress
  • Bullying and harassment
  • Violence & Aggression
  • Industrial disease, including
  • Asbestos
  • Hearing loss
  • Object and person manual handling
  • Repetitive strain injury
  • Defective equipment
  • Infection Control
  • Slip and trip cases

Specialist client knowledge & an added value service

The Department is unique in the fact that it has an intimate knowledge of the NHS, having a deep understanding of Board Policies as well as a strong network of connections with key personnel at all levels. Strong client relationships are built.

Risk

Six monthly reports were introduced, keeping the client informed on issues and provide valuable analysis of trends in all areas of the litigation process for Health Boards as well as focusing upon learning lessons and giving practical risk management advice in areas that have been identified as vulnerable. Prevention is better than cure.

The results achieved in defending cases and in the provision of advice have been consistently excellent. High levels of savings in costs and damages have been demonstrated consistently.

Education

The team’s hands on approach ensures collaboration with clients. Educational programmes and presentations ensure that the Client is kept up to date with all aspects of practice. We are keen to deliver regular training

“The service provided by our Legal & Risk solicitors is invaluable. Thanks to the commitment, experience and knowledge of their staff their work has included:
  • Their core work of defending unjustified personal injury claims which has enabled us to safeguard public money.
  • They have developed six-monthly statistical reports from an all-Wales perspective which allow us to benchmark our performance and provide assurance to the Board.
  • They have used their knowledge and experience to provide training to help get key messages across to staff and managers, both in terms of their responsibilities relating to safe environments and documentation, as well as the need for robust investigation and record keeping as soon as possible following any incidents.
There are no other solicitors who would be able to provide this perspective and range of support to us – it’s a result of their unique perspective and extensive expertise."
