NWSSP Legal and Risk and Welsh Risk Pool Services Director appointment announced

We are pleased to announce that Mark Harris has been appointed to the role of Director of NWSSP Legal and Risk Services and Welsh Risk Pool Services.

In a wide-ranging and important role, Mark will be responsible for the leadership, management and performance of the division. This will entail the delivery of effective legal and governance services, supporting NWSSP, Health Boards and NHS Trusts in Wales, as well as providing advice to Welsh Government on matters of strategic importance.

Mark first joined Legal and Risk Services in 1999 after previously working in private practice, attaining undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Law and a Postgraduate Certificate in Health Service Management from Cardiff University. He has provided specialist advice on a wide range of legal issues that NHS Wales organisations have faced, advising on literally thousands of such issues over 21 years and has a special interest in clinical negligence claims and health funding disputes.

Mark has previously led the Legal and Risk Services Corporate Legal Services team, leading many of the division’s corporate activities. He was instrumental in the implementation of the Scheme for General Medical Practice Indemnity in Wales and in the appointment of Legal and Risk Services as Scheme operator.

On the confirmation of his appointment Mark said;

“I am delighted to be appointed as the Director of Legal and Risk Services and Welsh Risk Pool Services and will seek to further embed a culture of continuous quality improvement and performance across our service. I will continue to build on and drive forward our hard-earned reputation as a progressive, responsive and innovative organisation, whilst promoting the vision, core values and strategic priorities of NWSSP.

Working closely with all colleagues in our teams and in consultation with stakeholders, I will ensure that we provide coherent, value for money services, keeping excellent customer service at our heart and upholding the standards required of us as regulated members of the legal profession.”
