Transforming Cancer Services In South East Wales Radiotherapy Satellite Centre (RSC)

Velindre Cancer Centre (VCC) is a centre of excellence for the non-surgical treatment of cancer. It is one of the ten largest regional clinical oncology centres in the United Kingdom and the largest of the three centres in Wales. To ensure that Cancer Services meets the needs of the population into the future, the Welsh Government requested that Commissioners and Velindre University NHS Trust (VUNHST) develop a Transforming Cancer Services (TCS) Programme Business Case for South East Wales. This work, that commenced in 2015 and provided a PBC in 2017 established a Clinical Model for Cancer Services in South East Wales. This was actioned through extensive engagement and consultation with partner organisations including Third Sector and, importantly, patients and their families. 



The purpose of this Full Business Case (FBC) is to confirm the case for change and the preferred option to develop Health and Well-being services in Newport East. The preferred way forward involves the construction of new Health and Well-Being Centre on the site of the existing Ringland Health Centre utilising additional land owned by Newport City Council. The estimated capital cost of the new Health & Wellbeing Centre is £27.461million.


Radiotheraphy Satellite Centre OBC Estates Annex REV 01 – September 2020

This document provides the supporting information outlining the estates content of the preferred option in the Outline Business Case (OBC) for the proposed development of a Satellite Radiotherapy Satellite Centre (RSC) at Nevill Hospital. This is a key component of the VUNHST Transforming Cancer Services Strategy and aligns fully with ABUHB’s Clinical Futures Strategy and associated plans for the use of Nevill Hall Hospital after the Grange University Hospital has opened.

Ysbyty Gwynedd Hospital Fire Safety and Infrastructure Compliance Programme Business Case

The purpose of this Programme Business Case is to secure in principle agreement to a funding envelope of £181M (+VAT) to be invested in significant risk reduction activities at Ysbyty Gwynedd Hospital, Bangor. This investment will secure continuity of patient care at this location to required standards and removing intolerable risks, relating principally to fire safety.

Development of a Wellbeing Hub at Maelfa

This business case seeks the approval for a capital investment of £14.371m to enable the development of a Wellbeing Hub at Maelfa to provide fit for purpose primary care facilities in support of the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board’s (CVUHB) vision for primary care and community services outlined within The Shaping Our Future Wellbeing Strategy (SOFW). The development will be progressed as one of the first tranche of projects 
described in the Shaping Our Future Wellbeing: In Our Community Strategy (SOFW:IOC).

Full Business Case for Prince Charles Hospital Phase 2 - Ground and First Floor Refurbishment – Scheme 3

This Full Business Case seeks to describe Phase 2 of a programme of remedial works to address a live Fire Enforcement Notice which encompasses large areas of the Prince Charles Hospital (PCH) site.  The full programme of works are being advanced on the back of both an approved Outline Business Case (OBC) in 2013, which was further reviewed and received additional Welsh Government endorsement in June 2016, as the basis for the agreed way forward for this scheme.
