Scan for Safety (S4S) Team celebrate success at the Future Vision Awards

The NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership’s Scan for Safety (S4S) Team were recently awarded the Evolution Award at the Future Vision Awards in a ceremony that took place on 14 November 2023.

S4S are introducing barcode scanning and the automation of the link between uniquely identified products, places and people, to not only assist in the prevention of patient harm, but to provide health care staff with real-time data at the point of care.

The all Wales initiative will also deliver significant financial savings, improved stock management, and removal of time-consuming administrative tasks from clinical staff at the same time as safeguarding our patients from avoidable harm, by providing instant traceability of implanted medical devices should a patient recall be required.

The S4S Team have been recognised and award for; Enabling transformation, automating the ordering of products, enabling health boards to stop labour intensive manual ordering whilst increasing much needed stock visibility and; Showing others the way through vision, the team and especially the Business Partners are working with stakeholders in each health board across clinical, supply teams, procurement, finance and Information Technology/Information Governance to drive adoption.
