Procurement Services and Surgical Materials Testing Laboratory recognised for excellence by GO Awards Wales

NWSSP Procurement Services and Surgical Materials Testing Laboratory (SMTL) have been formally recognised for the outstanding work undertaken by individuals and teams across NHS Wales as part of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The tireless work, innovation, extensive collaboration and partnership by Procurement and SMTL has seen the services shortlisted an incredible 14 times across 3 categories by GO Awards Wales, the Welsh arm of the national GO Excellence in Public Procurement Awards- an outstanding achievement.

GO Awards Wales celebrates the tireless work and endeavour that underpins the delivery of critical services; showcases the ingenuity that ensures public spend creates lasting social and economic benefit; and marks the work undertaken across procurement and procurement supply chains: whether to combat COVID-19 or deliver on the many other expectations of the citizens of Wales.

Jonathan Irvine, Director- NWSSP Procurement Services said: “I am delighted that the significant contribution made by NWSSP Procurement Services and SMTL in response to the COVID pandemic has again been recognised across so many areas of operation during the last 12 months.  The response from my Division has been impressive and clearly demonstrates the benefits of a single, unitary Procurement Service operating at a national and local level across sourcing, frontline operational procurement and logistics.  I wish to take this opportunity to again express my thanks and appreciation for the efforts and sacrifices made by colleagues across the Division as part of the national effort to Keep Wales Safe.”

Peter Phillips, Director- Surgical Materials Testing Laboratory said:

"I am delighted that SMTL and our Procurement colleagues have been nominated for these prestigious awards. The synergy within NWSSP between Procurement and SMTL is longstanding, but the pandemic has meant that what are usually back-office functions have been placed on a national stage.  Our work with the rest of the UK has resulted in an acknowledgement of the expertise that resides in Wales with regards to evidence based procurement. It has been immensely satisfying to know that our staff have been able to support NHS Wales front line staff over the last 12 months."
