All Occupational Health referrals must be completed by the Single Lead Employer Team.

Reason for referral - details of health condition / concerns

Useful Information

Salaries & Bandings

Your starting salary will be dependent on the grade and role in which you are commencing and will be in line with Medical & Dental salary scales for Wales. Please see table below for details.

Pay bandings are calculated and provided to the SLE team by the Health Board in which you will be working. It is dependent on the roster you will be working and the hours you will be undertaking.

Banding supplements can range from No Banding to 50% (Foundation Year 1 trainees in a no banding post will receive a 5% uplift).

Less Than Full Time

Your salary will be calculated at the percentage of the working time equivalent that you are working. For example: If working at 80%, the pay will be 80% of the base salary.

LTFT trainees will need to submit their rota to the local Medical Workforce team for them to calculate the appropriate banding.

Please note, when rotating to a new placement, any delays in the rota being submitted can result in a delay to the banding being paid correctly and should be done as soon as possible, ahead of the rotation start date.

Incremental Credit

Some trainees will be coming to us with prior experience in other training grades (such as Speciality, Core or Dental training, or relevant international experience), which can be considered for incremental credit (this does not include training at university level prior to your F1 programme). In some cases, pay protection may apply in accordance with the NHS Wales Pay Protection arrangements.

Previous NHS Service, service overseas and non-NHS service gained in the UK may count toward incremental progression on the salary scale. However, credit cannot be applied without documentary evidence of the service.

• For previous NHS service, you will need to provide a recent payslip, a full up to date CV, and a letter from your current employer confirming the dates employed, the role undertaken, and the salary paid. We will also request an Inter Authority Transfer form from payroll to confirm your NHS (England & Wales only) service.

Please note, this does not apply if already employed by the NHS Wales Single Lead Employer arrangement and moving from one training programme to another or from Core Specialty Training to Higher Training.

• For service overseas and non-NHS service, an application form will need to be completed and returned with supporting evidence that consists of a full up to date CV, any certificates of service, and employment references confirming the dates employed and the role undertaken.

Please note, new applications for incremental credit from Trainees from overseas can only be considered if you are an overseas trained doctor, and this is your first application for incremental credit in the NHS.

Trainees previously employed in the UK, returning from a period of working abroad will only be awarded incremental credit for service worked in an equivalent or higher graded post.

• If agency work has been undertaken; for this to be taken into consideration, the work undertaken would need to be equivalent to a full-time role of 3 months or more in the same specialty. You will need to provide a letter from the agency / employer; confirming dates enrolled, dates of work undertaken and that the hours worked were equivalent to full time. All applicable locum work will be approved in line with the NHS Wales pay terms and conditions of employment and subject to the above criteria, attract credit for 50% of the total service worked as an ad hoc locum.

Please note, locum foundation year 2 posts worked after the completion of Foundation year 2, do not count as equivalent experience for incremental credit purposes for Core or Higher Specialty Posts.

ESR

ESR, Employee Self Service Record, is the system used to record all of your personal data and your employment records, such as your payroll information and emergency contact information.

It is also the platform for all employees to keep their statutory and mandatory training compliance up to date.

Following initial commencement of employment, all employees should log into ESR and update their equality data and the emergency contact information (the person who we would need to contact for you, in the case of an emergency).

It is vital that this information is kept up to date and your Statutory & Mandatory training compliance remains at 100%.
