In a new monthly feature, we will be introducing you to our teams within Legal & Risk Services.
This month, fresh from their win in the 'Listening and Learning' category of the NWSSP Staff Recognition Awards, we will be focusing on the Employment Team.
Over the last 6 years, our team has grown from three solicitors to eight solicitors and one paralegal. We also have support from a team Secretary and a Trainee Solicitor.
The focus of our work is to support HR teams with employment relations issues across the NHS in Wales. This includes providing advice in respect of quick telephone queries, defending claims at the Employment Tribunal, providing client training and influencing all Wales policy groups in the design and content of new All Wales policies. We also spot trends and themes in the queries and claims we advise upon and use this information to design relevant and focussed client training.
We have a fantastic team with a broad range of experience from outside and within the NHS. Daniela, Sioned and Chris previously worked together at a commercial firm in Cardiff, providing advice to the NHS before joining the in-house team. Gemma joined us last year from a regional commercial firm having spent a number of years advising clients in NHS England. Adam has worked both in the private sector in London as well as for a local authority in England and prior to joining the team, developed particular expertise in advising in the education sector. Clare and Peter both have a number of years of experience of advising on employment law in the private sector. Our newest recruit, Lorrelee, spent a number of years post qualification advising on employment law for clients of a leading insurer before taking a job in-house in NHS England. Sammie joined us three years ago and is about to qualify as a Chartered Legal Executive.
Outside work, we have a broad range of interests. Sioned plays netball in the Cardiff and District league and is an assessor for CILEX. Clare plays oboe in an orchestra and Adam, having studied music at university, plays the tuba. Carrying on the musical theme, Daniela sings in a covers band. Daniela is also the Wales representative for the Employment Lawyers Association. Peter coaches a local youth football team. Lorrelee is a keen horse-rider and enjoys the theatre. Sammie enjoys travelling and has been learning Italian this year. Chris is an opera enthusiast and collects art.
We are a close knit team and we work well together to deliver an excellent service to our clients. This has been a particularly busy year for the team with the dramatic increase in Employment Tribunal claims and we have achieved some fantastic results for our clients.
In celebration of our teamwork, we have recently been shortlisted for an award at the NHS Wales Shared Services Awards. The ceremony takes place in December.
Please get in touch if you want to discuss any employment law related queries or if you want to arrange training for your team. We’d love to hear from you.
