GO Awards Wales ceremony took place on the afternoon of the 19 June 2020 and were the first ever procurement Awards to be held entirely online.

The GO Awards Wales recognise the tireless work and endeavour that underpins the delivery of critical services; to showcase the innovation and ingenuity that ensures public spend creates lasting social and economic benefit; and to mark the extensive collaborations and partnerships that exist across supply chains.

Hosted by Magician Paul Martin and Officially Welcomed by Rebecca Evans, Minister for Finance and Trefnydd (Leader of the Senydd), this year the GO Awards Wales were delighted to announce 10 Highly Commended Awards, 9 Winners and 1 Outstanding GO Excellence Wales Winner, across  ten categories.

The event was an outstanding success for Procurement Services with the Team of the Year award presented to the Cardiff and Vale Frontline Procurement Team and the Procurement & Health Courier Services Workforce Group, with University of South Wales Highly Commended.

Claire Salisbury, Head of Procurement, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board;

”I am absolutely thrilled and delighted that the team has won this prestigious award, which I believe is a testament to their commitment, skills and expertise.  The team are leading the way in procurement and to be recognised by their peers is proof of this hard work, skill and dedication, and I am very proud to work alongside them each and every day.”

The procurement team that works on behalf of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board were winners in the category of Procurement Project of the Year (sub-£20m value) with Procurement Services also Highly Commended in the same category for the Medical Workforce Efficiency project.

Further success was also announced with the Procurement Green Team Sustainability Group winning in the Procurement Leadership of the Year Category and Highly Commended in the Best Environmental Impact category.

Deputy Head of Procurement at the Health Board, Robert Type highlights the team effort that has went into winning the Procurement Project of the Year award. Robert;

”This is an excellent example of front line and support services staff working together to re-design and implement new processes and systems that not only benefited the patients through the improved delivery of care but also saved District Nursing time to enable them to concentrate on their day job. Procurement and Supply Chain staff provide the new service which involved setting up patient dressing contracts that provide optimum value for money, as well as kitting out the District Nursing bases with new storage that aids the distribution and replenishment of dressings”.

Tracey Bajjada, Clinical Nurse Specialist for Aneurin Bevan University Hospital explains more about the award winning project,

“The project was for the Shared Services dressing formulary distribution to the District Nurses. This has saved the District Nurses time as they have stock of all dressings on the formulary in their base so no need to get prescriptions. It has also ensured that patients have the correct treatment for their wounds straight away, it has also saved the Health board more than 30% their day to day spend as there is no wastage of dressings as the dressings are not allocated to patients, the District Nurse just takes the dressing they need on the day.”

“Shared Services staff visit each base once a week and undertake an inventory. They then deliver the dressings required to the base, unpack them and put them away. Saving District Nurses even more time.”

Director of Procurement and Health Courier Services, Jonathan Irvine said;

“This is a real testament to the strength in depth that we have across our operations and the quality of work produced which is making a real and positive difference to the NHS in Wales. Well done and good luck to the winners at the UK finals.”
