Jane Storey

Jane qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1985 and consolidated her training by gaining 5 years of experience as a nurse in Bristol, London and Oxford on wards ranging from General Medicine to Paediatric Oncology.

Jane then went on to train as a midwife, qualifying in 1990. She gained invaluable experience for 5 years post registration at Southmead Hospital, Bristol before accepting a position as a Midwife at The Matilda Hospital in Hong Kong. After 9 fabulous months she returned to the UK in 1996 and joined the Midwifery team at St Michaels Hospital, Bristol.

During her time at St Michael’s, Jane gained experience in all aspects of midwifery care, working regularly on the wards providing high risk and low risk ante natal and post natal care, the midwife led unit and the transitional care unit. She also worked in the community and the induction suite but most of Jane’s midwifery experience has been on the central delivery suite providing intrapartum care to women with complicated pregnancies. This has set a strong foundation for her involvement in PROMPT (PRactical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training).

In 2016 an opportunity arose for Jane to join the research team at St Michael’s. This reintroduced her to the research team at Southmead Hospital and in 2018 The PROMPT Maternity Foundation asked her to join them as a project midwife to support the implementation of PROMPT across Wales. In January 2020 Jane retired from the NHS but continued to work with The PROMPT Maternity Foundation (PMF). She returned clinically to work on the midwifery bank in March 2020 to support the maternity team at Southmead Hospital at the beginning of the Covid 19 pandemic. She continues as a faculty midwife PMF.

In 2020 Jane was asked to join the PROMPT Wales National Team as an experienced facilitator and provides support to local faculties, ensuring high standards of training are embedded within maternity units across Wales.

Even now after 36 years as a registrant, Jane is still keen to develop her role as a midwife and rarely shies away from new challenges. She is always keen to learn and be involved in new and exciting projects.

As soon as the Covid vaccination programme began in December 2020, Jane joined the team at North Bristol Trust, vaccinating frontline NHS and social care staff. Once completed she began to work regularly with the vaccination teams in various healthcare settings and continues to do so.

Jane is married to Rob and hopes to re-retire at some point and join him on his pre pandemic planned trip to Morocco in a very old camper van to learn how to surf.

She has 2 children, Tom and Cate who are both at university.

Jane enjoys reading and spending time with her much-loved friends.
