Kath Clarke

Kath works for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board within the Patient Safety and Experience Department and has worked in the NHS for 39 years having worked within a clinical governance/patient safety arena since 2005. She is passionate about patient safety and is co-chair of the Welsh Risk Pool’s Learning Advisory Panel where all  learning from events reports are scrutinised for appropriate actions relevant to the care and service delivery issues identified.  Learning for these panel meetings can be shared via the members or through the newsletter “Doctrina”. Prior to moving into a clinical governance/patient safety arena Kath was a pain nurse in Wrexham Maelor Hospital. During this time she completed her PhD and her thesis focused on the impact of believing a pain experience. She had several publications in both the national and international nursing press. Her passion for research and patient safety led her to join the local national research ethics committee and today she chairs two ethics committee which are based in North Wales (East and Central) and Cardiff. Her home life is no less busy, she has two wonderful grandsons and claims to be the perfect wife, mother and nanny! She enjoys travelling and spends the majority of her holidays touring Europe or America predominantly on the back of her husband’s motorbike!
