How the card works

As part of this service you will be given a Gluten Free Foods (GFF) pre-paid contactless subsidy card with a monetary amount that is topped up every three months.

Your gluten free food pre-paid subsidy card may be used to purchase gluten free food ranges from any food retailer with a card reader system that displays the Mastercard® acceptance mark, excluding limited acceptance Merchants in EU/EEA that do not accept prepaid cards. This includes online purchases and pharmacies.

When you shop at a retailer or online you can use your card at the till to pay for your gluten free foods within your shopping basket. You will need to put these items through separately to ensure only gluten free food is paid for with your card. From time to time we may contact you to provide receipts of the purchases you have made with the card.

The gluten free food subsidy card cannot be exchanged for cash or used for payment of a credit account and no change is given. You can however use the card contactless.

The card is usually loaded with three months’ worth of money added at a time. When you first join the service, the money will be calculated from the date you activate the card to the next scheduled load date. For example, if you join two months before the next scheduled load date, your card will be topped up with two months’ worth of money instead of the usual three.

The monthly subsidy has been calculated taking into account:

  • The cost difference between gluten free and gluten containing foods available to buy in supermarkets across a range of products
  • Population calorie requirements  (for age and gender)

Access to website

Upon registration onto the scheme you will be given access to a website where you will be able to see what value is remaining on your card. You will also be able to see a full statement from the time you activated the card. Allpay Ltd has developed this website for your use only, your GP and NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership will not have access to this website.

Top ups

Once the amount on the card is used up then the card cannot be used until it is topped up again. The top ups will usually be made every three months.
