Q1. Who are Legal & Risk Services?

Established by the Welsh Government in 1996, the NWSSP Legal & Risk Services is a team of In-House lawyers employed within the NHS Wales. The lawyers provide legal advice on a wide range of matters.

Q2. Who funds Legal & Risk?

Legal work related to the investigation and management of clinical claims is funded from the budget for health services in Wales. Payment is made for other work by the Health body in Wales which required it.

Q3. Why is advice sought on an in-house basis rather than using external Solicitors?

The advice required and provided is highly specialised and often particular to the NHS in Wales making it beneficial to use specialist, cost effective in house service.
