First Steps

If you are interested in applying to the GP Specialty Training scheme in Wales, visit The Wales Deanery for more information on the assessment process and deadlines.

The main intake of GP Specialty Trainees is in August of each year, with a second intake in the following February after re-advertisement.

If your initial application is successful, you will be invited to attend an assessment Centre held by the Deanery, following which you will be advised whether you have been successful or not. If successful, a formal offer will be made by the Deanery.

Following the acceptance of formal offers, NWSSP ensure all Pre-Employment Checks are complete, including Occupational Health, DBS and Right to Work Status, and provide the GP Specialty Registrar with an appointment letter and enrolment pack. The contracts of employment will be sent to the GP Specialty Registrar within 8 weeks of commencing on the training scheme.
