What we do

NHS Wales Shared Services (NWSSP) are supporting Health Boards in the use of Assemble, a digital solution that supports volunteers in their volunteering journey.

NWSSP acts as a national "engine room," providing professional, technical, and administrative services on behalf of all Health Boards and Trusts in Wales. By centralizing these complex functions, NWSSP allows frontline health services to focus on what they do best: delivering exceptional patient care.

Our Role in Your Volunteering Journey

Volunteers are the heartbeat of the NHS. To ensure their contribution is managed safely, efficiently, and consistently, NWSSP has spearheaded the implementation of Assemble, designed specifically to support the volunteering lifecycle.

We act as a strategic partner to the Health Boards. Our role includes:

  • National Implementation: Overseeing the rollout of this digital platform to ensure a "Once for Wales" approach—meaning every volunteer can access one system and receives the same high standard of support, regardless of their location.

  • Continuous Technical Support: Providing the backend expertise to keep the system running 24/7, so Health Boards can manage registrations, training, and compliance without a hitch.

  • Streamlined Communication: Enabling the automated tools within the software that allow Health Boards to send instant updates, shift notifications, and newsletters directly to their volunteers.

  • Data-Driven Insights: Managing the national data that helps us understand the incredible impact volunteers are making across the country.

"By providing the digital tools and the technical know-how, NWSSP empowers Health Boards to nurture their volunteer communities. We handle the technology so that the human connection remains the priority."
